All classes are currently taught by Artistic Director Kelsey Lee.
Kelsey Lee (she/they) is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and mom. In 2024, she founded Dance PlayHouse to make more space for dance along the West Michigan lakeshore. They have taught a variety of dance styles to all ages for the past decade, and they are a registered yoga teacher (RYT-200). In addition to teaching dance, she provided 1:1 therapy in-home and in schools to children on the autism spectrum, under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst for several years.
They began dancing at 8 years old at the Dance Factory in Delavan, Wisconsin where they studied ballet in the Cecchetti Method, modern, and jazz. She has a BFA in Contemporary Dance & Choreography with a double major in Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. There, they received two undergraduate research fellowships for somatic research under the mentorship of Maria Gillespie, and was the recipient of several dance scholarships, including the Ed Burgess Legacy Scholarship. After graduation, she completed a Meisner technique training program at The Acting Studio in NYC, New York. We foster a body-positive environment, and therefore do not have a strict dress code. We just ask that our students wear comfortable clothing they can move in.
For footwear, feel free to wear dance shoes, socks, or go bare foot! We do not allow street shoes however, and will ask you to remove your shoes before entering the dance space.

There are a lot of reasons, but here are 3:
1) Dance PlayHouse focuses on collaboration rather than competition. Students are encouraged to celebrate eachother’s artistry as they work and learn together.
2) Our small class sizes ensure each student gets individualized attention, increasing their self-confidence and making them feel seen and appreciated.
3) Our space! All classes take place on stage in the Acacia Theatre, providing a unique and fun environment for learning.
